Celebrating Mums At Altitude - Part 2
Welcome to part two of our 3-part series celebrating some of the amazing Mums at our studios by sharing their amazing & inspirational journeys with you ♥
Today, we've spoken with Krystal Sara, Kim and Jess about their journeys as Mums at Altitude...
Krystal Sara's Journey
Krystal Sara's journey with pole dancing has brought her a creative outlet to help her build strength, commitment and self confidence. She has passed huge milestones like getting her first pole stand (ka pai!) and getting the confidence to wear shorts in class. She also enjoys bringing her lovely, supportive partner along to some of the studio's social events as a way to share the space with her, too ♥
So Krystal Sara, what inspired you to try pole dancing?
It was a unique way to stay fit and active while introducing me to a new demographic of people.
Were there any hesitations or doubts holding you back initially, especially with having family commitments, and what helped you push past any barriers to give it a go?
So many things. Money, routine, flexibility, strength. I told myself to give it a go for three months and see if it was something I could work through. Allowing myself to do something for me was the biggest barrier. I enjoy pole because it pushes my boundaries, makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something.
Self-care is crucial, especially for busy Mums. How does pole or aerial fitness play into your self-care routine?
It gives me time away to concentrate on something other than work/home life. Mentally it has been everything I wanted it be. My mind works so much clearer, I am happier and my body is stronger - which is great in terms of self worth.
Do you have any advice you would give to other Mums starting out at Altitude?
Please give it a go! It has changed my life, I am so excited to go to class and try new things. It allows you to be sexy, creative and free. Age is irrelevant, you can start whenever.
Kim's Journey
Kim joined us after wanting to do aerials for as long as she can remember, but didn't think she could find the time in her busy schedule to do two hours of classes each week with three young children. After seeing that investing the time and energy made her a happier, healthier Mum and partner, she now does four classes a week and enjoys the flexible class timetable that allows her to change things up when Mum duties come calling ♥
So Kim, what was it like stepping into the studio for the first time, and what made you want to keep coming back for more?
A warm bath. I found my strength and skills grew so fast alongside other new students, I never felt like I was struggling alone. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and there was a mix of young people, parents and even grandparents are present in the classes. It made me feel so much more energetic then being on the couch!
What do you like about pole dancing or aerial fitness?
I love the way of being able to express myself. As a mum I have to be careful not to lose the sensual and playful part of myself. I am reminded of that while I’m in the studio and I take it back home with me. We laugh A LOT, the community is really special to me now. And it’s damn hot to have a hobby like this too.
Self-care is crucial, especially for busy Mums. How does pole or aerial fitness play into your self-care routine?
I’m a happier human because if it, and thus a better Mum. I never look at the clock when I'm there, and I completely forget the rest of the world (yes, including the children) when I’m flying in the silks. That's selfcare we all need!
Jess's Journey
Jess started pole to give her time for herself, time to focus on her body and as a way to maintain a healthier lifestyle for herself.
So Jess, what was it like stepping into the studio for the first time, and what made you want to keep coming back for more?
It was scary at first, new people, new space, new clothes but everyone was so warm and welcoming. It helped me to come back as well as how much fun I had.
Balancing motherhood with your own hobbies can be a challenge. How do you manage to fit in your pole or aerial sessions amidst all the chaos?
I like to set up specific days I go to pole and try to stick to it while also knowing that Altitude allows for flexibility if I need it.
Do you have any advice you would give to other Mums starting out at Altitude?
Give it a go. Don't worry about what other people may think and do something that you want to do cause you deserve it
