Stuck in a rut? Break free of boredom by trying something new!
Feeling stuck in a routine lately? If your daily grind feels a bit meh and you've already rewatched Grey's Anatomy like, 10 times, it might be the perfect moment to invite some fun into your life!
We may be a little biased, but we think aerial fitness is the perfect rut-buster if you're ready to commit to an exciting new challenge.
Starting something new can be intimidating, especially if you're coming in as a total beginner, so we've put together our top tips on how to break free of boredom and embrace trying something new!
It's Okay To Be Scared (Do It Anyway!)
It's totally normal to feel a bit jittery or anxious when trying something new, especially if you've been sticking to the same routine for a while. Being scared is okay! But don't let that fear stop you. Embrace it, and push yourself to go for it!
And really, what's there to fear? In a beginner's class, everyone's in the same boat – it's a group of people who are eager to try something new, make friends, and boost their fitness. No one's an expert from the get-go. You'll all be beginners together, chuckling at those awkward moments as your body adjusts and rooting for each other as you start nailing those new moves. It's a journey, and you'll be in good company! 💪
Focus On Starting Small
Starting something new doesn't mean taking a massive leap right away. You can begin with baby steps and gradually progress at whatever pace is right for you. For most people, even getting off the ground is a huge achievement!
Focus on setting achievable goals and celebrate every milestone, no matter how big or small🏅 Showed up to your first class? Awesome! Tried out a new apparatus? Great job! Made a new friend? Amazing!
Our memberships have a range of options, so you can ease in and add a sprinkle of fun to your routine with the right amount of classes to suit your schedule.
Enjoy The Journey. Trust The Process.
Becoming an expert aerialist doesn't happen overnight... and probably not after one, two, or even three classes either! Developing these skills can take years, which gives you plenty of time to indulge in your new skills and enjoy the journey along the way.
The key to tackling something new is consistency. You might not ace everything on your first try, but with practice, you'll improve a bit more with each class.
Each time you try a move, you'll gain strength. Every new flow you learn adds to your coordination. And coming along to stretch class? It'll enhance your flexibility bit by bit. Stay consistent, trust in the process, and most importantly, have fun along the way!
Track Your Progress
Embracing being a beginner involves accepting that becoming good at something might take time, and that can be a bit of a challenge.
A great way to push through this challenge is to track your progress. Find a method to measure success and celebrate all those small victories along the way.
There are heaps of ways to track your progress, some of our favourites are:
Take photos/videos of yourself in class to look back on, and watch as you start to master your new skills
Keep a journal where you write down what you learned in class and how it felt
Pick up a tick sheet of all the moves in your level so that you can see how many moves you've mastered as you go
Set a goal to turn a challenging move into your signature move
Never Stop Trying
Persistence is key: if you encounter setbacks, keep trying! It's not about reaching perfection but rather about consistent practice. Every move you learn is a challenge - an opportunity to embrace something new 💪
In aerials, mastering certain moves often takes time and dedication. But with a little perseverance, those seemingly difficult moves will eventually become easier (and may even become your signature tricks!).
Be Kind To Yourself
We all have days that go well and others that don't quite click. Sometimes, everything falls into place from the get-go, while other times, things just don't seem to cooperate. As a beginner, you might face more tough days than easy ones, but they're still part of the fun!
It's okay to mess up, feel awkward, and not have it all figured out—it's part of the learning journey. Be kind to yourself; remember, you're just starting out 😉 And honestly, if it were easy, would it really be as enjoyable?
